Hey there,
Like play, like play, March has gone. How are you doing and what’s happening with you? I hope you’re being nice to yourself and trying to find joys in this unfortunate world we find ourselves in. I’ve been good, doing the same old stuff I did last month but even less this month because there’s a little bit of work here and there for me to do (yes, it’s what you think it is. If you read the previous editions of the newsletter, you should know what I’m talking about).
Writing this newsletter has made me very thankful and reflective and I hope that it’s been helpful for you, even if it means putting you on to the next good show or music?
All The Good Stuff
There was a shitload of things to do this month but I had a moment to sneak in some of the good stuff
Akwaeke Emezi’s ‘The Death of Vivek Orji’ was the best book I read this month. It’s so beautiful and so profound and had me thinking a lot.
This month, I discovered Taylor Swift’s album called Folkore and that was so good for me. There’s also this Spotify playlist which is the best thing for me when I have tasks to do
The Bold Type is a decent watch as well. If you saw Girlfriends and liked it, then you’ll like this too
This beautiful photo essay on Viola Davis by Viola King
Nadine Ibrahim has a documentary called Marked and that’s on Netflix (PS- It’s just twenty minutes)
More Serious Stuff
I don’t know if this counts as more serious stuff but I got the COVID vaccine sometime last week. The only thing that terrified me about it was actually the fact that I was going to be injected with a needle (I hate needles). I took it, and then seemed fine for the rest of the day. In the evening, I had a terrible cold but it felt a lot better later on. If you haven’t taken yours yet and you’re in Nigeria, you probably should check the NPHCDA website for the closest location to you.
This month, a few things happened that I may eventually flesh out in subsequent editions but here’s a quick summary
Don’t accept mediocre energy from anyone who’s trying to move to you - Useless lazy energy is a no and you refuse to accept useless lazy ass energy from anyone in your life going forward. You simply should not.
Likewise, don’t accept mediocre pay from anyone who wants your services - It’s okay if they go with Ajala who accepts less.
I saved this for last because I wanted you to remember. I have a new video series on Clout Africa where I talk about Nollywood and the film industry generally. If you know me, you know it’s something I’m passionate about. We’re about seven episodes in so please check us out on YouTube for now.
Can you tell that this letter is running on vibes? I’ll do better next month.
Best,
Franklin.
