Hey friend,
I’ve had writing this on my to-do list for about a month now. To be honest, I started writing one in July, and then I’m like surely, y’all have shit to do that doesn’t involve reading this. Then, it went on and on until I told myself I had to write it. On most days, I’m tired and on the others, I’m lazy. But I’m doing it today and I must finish it. It’s been about six months since the last one so the chances that you’re expecting this are slim. I too, was just going to stop writing (but meh, I thought against it + I found new subscribers + some people buzzed to know what’s up so here I am)
As the year ends, there’s this mental burnout that I feel like everybody gets. I don’t know about you but that’s where I am now. Here’s some article about how millennial managers are burnt out and I thought it was a good read. I currently switch from zero interest about work to working long hours and forgetting to watch, read or do anything else. So, as we get into holiday season and the whole Detty December, don’t forget to prioritise yourself and rest. Eat well, sleep better and rest.
Speaking of Detty December, what are your plans like? I thought I’d be able to travel home to my village but a couple of factors are proving that wrongly. So now I’m looking for someone to fund me so I can check into a nice hotel (in my true Christmas/New Year tradition) and stay there. I’m not sure if I want to do concerts this year. It just feels pretty bleak for me right now. But I want to know - what do you have planned?
More Exciting Stuff
I was in Tunis earlier in the year and I sat on a Parallel Jury for the Carthage Film Festival, one of the oldest in the world. It was an exciting experience and Tunis reminded me so much of Europe. It was beautiful and I can’t wait to do more of this.
I’ve been working on something with a group of people called called Soft Landing.Soft Landing as a concierge service and guide to navigating your trip back home for the holidays. Soft Landing offers airport protocol to help navigate the Lagos International airport, access to a network of hospitality and lifestyle businesses and a card to get discounts and deals. Use the discount code SFTLND05 and get 5% off when you purchase a plan right now. Also, follow the page on Instagram for more deets!
I think that’s about it. I’m looking back at this note I wrote in 2020 about my year and I’m very excited to publish another this year. Was this the best year? Not really. Did we move though? We did and that’s all that matters baby.
Also, some piece of essential reading I recommend
This beautiful article by Fiyin if your year hasn’t been what you thought
This one on leadership because I think consciously or unconsciously you’re thrown into it
A little plug as to why the Netherlands is one of my favourite places to work
Anyway, that’s about it for now.
Until next month,
Franklin.
